However, the majority of the items are letters from Dexter to Herbert on Metropolitan Opera Association headed paper c1977-1979, Dexter being Director of Production for the Met, and are undated. The letters relate to staging of scenes for productions on which they were collaborating.
There are also dated letters referring to possible collaborations for example, on 'Lulu', 26 Nov 1974 [which they subsequently did work on, performed 1977] which mention technical difficulties with the piece. Other dated letters refer in passing to collaborations and other productions on which they were not working together for example, 'Equus' 29 Sep -11 Nov 1975 and also more personal matters.
There are also copy letters sent by Herbert to, or about Dexter for example, accompanying drawings and containing interpretations of them, 1 Aug 1976 [for 'Lulu'?]. There are also notes by Herbert [that appear to have been sent to Dexter] on production staging.
Included is paperwork relating to collaborations for example, Herbert's contract for designing 'Pygmalion', 11 Dec 1978, standard scenic and costume design contracts from United Scenic Artists and letters containing financial details. There are also letters referring to [Arnold Wesker's] 'The Merchant' and a dimension plan c1976. The play was directed by Dexter, designed by Herbert and first performed in 1977.
Other letters do not relate to productions directly for example, Herbert's donation of drawings from 'Lulu' for a charity auction, 29 Jun 1977.
Sundry items include: programme, 'La Forza del Destino' [The Force of Destiny]; music for 'Le Rossignol'; and what appears to be an interview transcript about 'The Merchant'
