The costumes are militaristic [for example 0371], using a palette of black and orangey-red [for the soldiers jackets]. Most of the costume designs are annotated with the characters name and many with additional notes for example, 0373 'Act I Scene I/ Soldiers'. Additional detailing are shown on some costume designs for example, 0381 in which the character is holding a prop [tankard]. 0394 has colour experimentations on the top left hand corner, indicating that Herbert was considering using the orangey-red of the soldiers uniforms for the civilian outfits. Gauze was used on which an industrial landscape was painted when the production was staged, the file contains a small scale version of this gauze [0355]. The exterior staging uses a tonal colour palette which features in bright orangey-red that match the sergeant's jackets the interior staging uses the same tonal palette but the colours are deeper. Some of the set designs are annotated with the corresponding scene for example, 0362. Some of the designs show detailing for example, 0380 is a design for an architectural column and 0386 shows different designs for gravestones.
