Description | By Arnold Wesker, one of The Wesker Trilogy being: Chicken Soup with Barley; Roots; and I'm Talking About Jerusalem. Director, John Dexter. Premiere, Belgrade Theatre, Coventry, 25 May 1959. The file contains set designs. They are in two alternative palettes, autumnal [5385] and blues [5388]. The designs show a house with a wall removed so that an interior room is visible. 5397 and 5402 show a side elevation for the building. 5399 and 5400 both have squares of washes, probably experiments for the background. Herbert seems to have considered [and may in fact have employed] having a staircase to the left and having more than one floor to the set for example, 5404. There is also a box of glass slides with projections painted on them by Herbert [see page 32 Jocelyn Herbert - A Theatre Workbook (Art Books International, 1993) for her explanation of this]. Pencil, pen and paint on paper and glass. |
