TitleKrapp's Last Tape
LevelFile
Date1958; 1973
DescriptionBy Samuel Beckett, Directors George Devine and Donald McWhinnie, premiere 28 Oct 1958, The Royal Court Theatre; Director Anthony Page, premiere 16 Jan 1973, The Royal Court Theatre. The file contains costume drawings and on stage pictures. The drawings are largely produced using pen and pencil sketches that have been built up using a series of lines or scratches for example, 1742 which details Krapp's wig. The main character, Krapp, was originally to be a clown but Beckett changed him to an old man and both these incarnations are reflected in Herbert's designs. The sets are shown in four paintings and one sketch [1746-9, 1752], these place Krapp on the stage at/around his desk on which are various objects. The paintings also reveal the lighting techniques used.
Pen, pencil and paint on paper.
