TitleBernard Shaw: Political Thinker
LevelItem
Date26 July 2006
DescriptionAs well as being the celebrated author of Pygmalion, St Joan and Major Barbara, Bernard Shaw was one of the leading political thinkers of his day. An outstandingly active member of the Fabian Society, he spoke at over 1000 meetings.

He argued vigorously for women's rights and with remarkable foresight pointed out that the 'the mechanisation of modern war greatly reduces the power of human conscience'. Marking the 150th anniversary of Shaw's birth, a discussion with current political thinkers looks at the contemporary influence of a radical thinker.

Panel includes: Christopher Morahan, Sunder Katwala (General Secretary of the Fabian Society) and Roy Hattersley.
Chaired by Genista McIntosh, Baroness McIntosh of Hudnall.
