Datec1954-2003
DescriptionThe file contains letters from Howarth to Herbert, they contain personal information on himself and mutual acquaintances and references to collaborations and other work. There is also: a joint programme for 'The Island' and 'Waiting for Godot', 1952; reviews; newsletter of the Alvis Owners Club, Jan 1980; suppliers leaflet for Mini's (car); and postcards.
Most letters say where Howarth was writing from but are undated. Many refer to the reception of his plays and often reflect upon them for example, whether characters were as they should have been in 'Adventures Of A Black Girl' [1980]. In some Howarth talks directly about the visualisation of his plays on which Herbert is working. He also talks about difficulties he is having for example, with staging [see 14 Oct 1980 which includes a drawing highlighting the issues]. [Herbert designed Howarth's play Three Months Gone at the Royal Court Theatre (1970)].
