| Description | The files were housed in cabinets by Herbert and all the titles are originals but alphabetical order has been restored. The files contain a mixture of information, of note are letters from directors, composers and playwrights with whom Herbert collaborated and letters and items relating to the English Stage Company, George Devine Award, National Theatre [UK] and The Royal Court Theatre. There are also a number of files related to productions or films for example, Prometheus. Some files were empty but the titles have been retained in the sequence to illustrate Herbert's filing system and to evidence the contents.
Some recurring nicknames appear: Georgie is George Devine; Percy is Margaret Harris, designer; TR is Tony Richardson; Sam is [most probably] Samuel Beckett [please note Herbert's grandson is also called Sam [Sam Richards] and some references may be to him, particularly in relation to party guests, Christmas present lists etc]. |
