DescriptionJuanita was produced by the London Theatre Studio, the story takes place around the female protagonist Juanita. The file contains costume and set designs. On the set designs Herbert uses a technique that would become common to her methodology, mostly the design is identified by act and scene number[s] and some have additional notes for example, drawing 0030 note include that gauze should be used [the design is to be painted on top] and that this will cost £176. Many of the costumes have the character they are intended for written on them, a few have additional notes for example, 'Sonia/Madhouse' [drawing 0043]. The costume drawings include facial portraits, these are probably to show hair and make-up but may be designs for masks and military costumes. The palette mainly employs autumnal colours, although many of the designs are not coloured and are pencil sketches for example, 0115. The designs also illustrate that Herbert was influenced by other artists, the costumes have a Goyaesque style to them that is particularly evident in the female designs [influence identified by Herbert on design notes, 0082]. Some designs show the verso and recto for example, 0111 or include detailing of costume parts as well as the full design for example, 0116 or just detailing without showing the full costume for example, 0123. A number of the designs show the characters in action for example, dancing or firing a rifle or posing. There are also designs for props for example, design 0081 is a sabre for the soldiers and design 0082 is for daggers, this includes directions on how to make the prop.
