Description | A new group of playwrights known as The Monsterists are campaigning for bigger plays, on bigger stages and for more resources for living writers. It is a positive, forward-looking movement which aims to create opportunities for British theatre writers to move from studio spaces to main stage.
With David Eldridge's contemporary epic Market Boy playing in the Olivier, this extended Platform offers the chance to meet the Monsters and discuss their campaign for large scale theatre, alongside staged examples of the 'small play' versus the 'big play'.
The monsters are Richard Bean, Moira Buffini, Ryan Craig, David Eldridge, Jonathan Guy-Lewis, Rebecca Lenkiewicz, Shelley Silas, Colin Teevan, Roy Williams and Sarah Woods, with affiliates in Scotland - David Greig and David Harrower, and, in Belfast, Owen McCafferty.
