Description | This sub-series includes correspondence for the years of Israel Gollancz's secretaryship of the movement. The correspondence is between members of the SMNT Committee, as well as with external stakeholders such as the Committee's accountants and lawyers and associated organisations such as the YMCA. The correspondence in this series documents numerous areas that affected the movement during its first thirty years, such as discussion about the aims and agenda for the movement, efforts to locate and secure a suitable site for the memorial to Shakespeare and for the theatre, legal correspondence aimed at releasing the funds left by Richard Badger in his legacy towards the Shakespeare Memorial, work in connection with the Shakespeare Hut and the establishment and running of the New Shakespeare Company. The correspondence also presents the personal views of Committee members on many of the issues faced by the movement. |
