DescriptionThis file documents the celebrations for the Shakespeare Tercentenary.

The file includes:
- SMNT/7/2/4(1): poster for Shakespeare Tercentenary Celebrations, entitled 'Shakespeare Tercentenary. Memoir of Shakespeare' (1916). Recto features images of places relevant to Shakespearean history, each with brief caption, as follows: Shakespeare Birthplace, Anne Hathaway's Cottage, Charlecote Church, the room where Shakespeare was born, a room in Anne Hathaway's Cottage, Stratford Church, the School and ancient Guildhall of Stratford, Charlecote Hall and Shakespeare Monument. Verso features hand written note, signed 'F.P.', with account of attendance at the Tercentenary in the company of Lord Leigh, The Archbishop of Dublin and John Baldwin. A speech was given on the occasion by Lord [Carlisle], who died shortly afterwards. Poster is accompanied by postal envelope.
-SMNT/7/2/4(2): booklet entitled 'Shakespeare Tercentanary Observance 1916-1919', issued in connection with observance of the Tercentenary on Shakespeare Day 'in the schools and other institutions' (1916). Features suggested programme for the celebrations, a chronology of Shakespeare's life, an essay by Israel Gollancz entitled 'Notes on Shakespeare the Patriot' and a closing section entitled 'Songs from Shakespeare'.
The following two items were enclosed in the booklet: (a) programme for a Shakespeare celebration at the Bromley County School for boys on 26/05/1916; (b) programme for a 'Dramatic Recital' by Otto Sallmann on 22/04/1920.
-SMNT/7/2/4(3): programme for Shakespeare Tercentenary Celebrations at the Dulwich Hamlet School on 12/05/1916.
- SMNT/7/2/4(4): programme for 'A Children's Garden Fete' on the occasion of the Shakespeare Tercentenary, to take place in Herontye, East Grinstead, on 12/07/1916.
