DescriptionThe file contains Committee minutes for the period and routine information such as how to apply, and accounts. There is a list of plays submitted to the 2002 Award. There are also submitted scripts, for example, by Simon Stephens (Herons), Zinnie Harris (Nightingale and Chase), Leo Butler (Redundant).
There is also some information on the Royal Court Theatre, such as a on finances [including the funds to name a seat after Lindsay Anderson], planned memorial for Oscar Lewenstein [producer], the refurbishment of the theatre and the naming of parts after George Devine and Tony Richardson for example, a fax from Stephen Daldry [film and theatre director and at the time Artistic Director at the Royal Court Theatre to Natasha Richardson [actress], 2 Oct 1996. There are other communications with Daldry such as letters from Anthony Page [Director], 28 Nov 1995. There is also a typed speech given by Anthony Page about the George Devine Award There is also a letter from John Mortimer[sent from Turville Heath Cottage] about the director Ian Rickson.
The file also includes 1996 correspondence between Herbert and Jane Collins at Wimbledon School of Art on the subject of an exhibition and conference about the Royal Court. Related to this are Herbert's notes 'Full Circle - Words or Spectacle - encapsulating her thoughts 40 years after George Devine became Artistic Director of the English Stage Company at the Royal Court.
