Description | By David Storey, Director Lindsay Anderson. Premiere, The National Theatre at the Cottesloe, 18 Nov 1992. The file contains costume and set designs. The costumes are in muted greys and browns or contrasting brights such as orange for example, 2276. In 2319 a prop is shown, a bag. The set backdrops and walls were painted onto gauze/hessian and the set was divided into a front and rear room, both of which contains furniture and action [see 2269-70]. Some show the characters on set and so staging is discernable for example, 2279 and in 2295 and 2304 the audience is visible. These also show how the two rooms were utilised. The drawings vary from highly furnished to sparsely furnished indicating that Herbert was experimenting with the design see 2283 and 2271 respectively. The set colours match the muted palette of many of the costumes but include muted pastel blues also. Pen, pencil and paint on paper. |
