As a Staff Director, my main responsibilities during the run are maintaining the show in the vision of the Lead Director and rehearsing the understudies so that if they have to go on, they can slot into the scenes as rehearsed, alongside the principal cast.
That means that through rehearsals, I need to keep track of the Lead Director's vision - and I find it useful to note the vocabulary the lead director uses, so I can carry that through when I'm noting the actors through the run. I also need to track the creative decisions we make as a company, including things like character intentions, script changes and blocking, so the understudies can be rehearsed into the scenes.
These things often change through rehearsals, previews and even through the run, so this is an ongoing working document, rather than a record of the show. |
